Weight Loss Surgery
GOAL: Sustained weight loss & optimal health
Fact: Diets don’t work. In fact, studies show that individuals who diet are more likely to regain the weight (often regaining to a weight greater than their pre-diet weight).
Fact: Sustained weight loss and optimal health require dietary and behavior modifications. These changes include quantity & quality of food choices, as well as activity.
Fact: Weight loss surgery is not a diet – it is a tool. Unlike a diet, weight loss surgery – providing functional restriction & some malabsorption (gastric bypass only) - enables you to make these lasting changes. Thus, weight loss surgery may provide permanent weight loss.
Fact: A tool is only as good as its user. Nutrition counseling before, during, and after weight loss surgery provides you with the education, practice, and support to successfully use your weight loss tool. Focusing on your lifestyle, your habits, and your preferences, we develop goals and strategies for successful implementation of necessary dietary and behavior modifications.
